When a cutworm attacks a plant I understand that it cuts it down close to the ground. But then do you find bits of the plant left on the ground? Like stems and stuff?

Cutworm symptoms?
I've never had them myself, but my book says they either chew up the bottom of the stalk and it's left hanging, or it's like a TIMBER-R-R kind of thing.
Yes, sometimes there are only bits of stem and leaves left. The cutworms cut my corn off at the ground and left the whole stalk lying there, but some of the peppers and tomatoes had most of the stem eaten. I dug around and found the cutworm still in the area around the plant.
I've been using beneficial nematodes with some success and cornmeal sprinkled around the corn seedlings helped control the cutworms.
