Can This Tree Be Saved

Brownsboro, AL(Zone 7a)

My wife asked me o tpost this request for help. This tree is in our front yard (Spruce?) and for several years the lower branches have been dying. Several months ago my wife trimmed off all of the dead branches at the bottom. We are curious as to the kind of tree and if there is anything we can do to stop the dying out from the bottom slowly up.

Any help is appreciated.

There are several diseases, blights and fungi that can be effecting your tree. Try contacting your local county extension service. Sorry I can't be more help.

Northumberland, United Kingdom(Zone 9a)

Blue Spruce Picea pungens. Prune out the dead and near-dead branches, that should at least reduce the rate of re-infection.
