Cryptomeria japonica 'Yoshino'

Campobello, SC

Anyone in the Finger Lakes Region of Upstate NY try growing Yoshino Japanese Cedar? I'd like to bring a few to my Mother-in-law. She loved them when she was here early in the year. Just not sure it would survive that far north.

Thanks in advance

One site I looked at said zone 6

Scott County, KY(Zone 5b)

I've been there once or twice, but I can't recall whether I saw Cryptomeria japonica in the extensive plantings at Sonnenberg Gardens in Canandaigua.

You might shoot them an email, or ask someone who has access to visit and check around. There are many fine old conifers there, among all the other gardens.

If not, something spiny always works for MILs.

Or a great big Sansevieria...

Her tongue is what earned the spiny or stinky gems.

Hope you can grow it, Dennis. I love most cryptos.

Thanks. I'm going to take some to my MIL. Seems they are right on that edge of hardiness zones. The lake (Honeoye) does tend to buffer some of the more severe cold for them.
