Verbascums grow wild here in the mountains of AZ, too. They seem to do well in sandy soil, but I grew some in NJ in hard-packed poor clay. They really do add a strong sculptural effect to the garden. BTW, there are a number of cultivated verbascum bombyciferum (Thompson & Morgan, for instance) with flowers of other colors.
Let's see some blooms!
I see the wild yellow and white Moth Mullein growing along the roadsides, and would love to collect some seed. I always find them so pretty and garden worthy when I see them blooming.

I've got more Dahlia blooms I'm dying to get pics of, but my camera is giving me issues. Still working on it, but anxiously awaiting more glorious blooms from y'all :-)
