I bought a Marie-Victorin last fall and had not seen it in bloom. It was one of the 1st to pop open today. Loaded with buds and very pretty. I didn't realize it is actually an Explorer Series rose. Beautiful color.
Canadian Roses
I hadn't realized there was an Explorer Series of roses.
Lovely.
What qualifies a rose as an Explorer?
-Susan-
I think the Explorer Series of Roses are Canadian bred roses that are hardy. I have one - John Cabot, I think. Have had it for a long time and never need to give it winter protection.

Epsom salts???
'splain, please...
Here's a great site with the info
http://www.epsomsaltcouncil.org/garden_benefits.htm
I know that Epsom salts in water - about 2 Tbsp per gallon, will help for hostas that are looking pale and dark along the veins (not to be confused with HVX bleeding along the veins). Maybe I'll water other stuff with it too. Mostly, I just soak myself in it after a gardening session.
Thank you, Joanne - checked out the site - very interesting!!
Ann - I love putting it in my bath........ mmmmmmmmmmm very relaxing!
-Susan-
Lovely, Lovely, Lovely!
Say, Joanne - where do you buy epsom salts in bulk?
Thank you, Joanne :-)
I just KNOW it's going to help the gardens I care for, as well as my own :-)

Beautiful roses, especially like the Burgundy Iceburg.
Me too! Lovely color.
Just came from our church, where they're creating a Memorial Garden.
I planted a rose bush in memory of my dad, George Singleton.
It's a John Franklin/Explorer series.
Also found out that one of my friends is not able to care for her garden as she wants to, and it has "gone to weed" and is overgrown with tree suckers.
I don't have enough yard to fill my "yard itch" so she & I are going to go through her yard (front & back, with a gazebo!! just like the one @ Heritage Park, cuz her Dad used to work for the city and he got the plans for it!). and tear out what she doesn't want, plant mostly in the front so her mom can see it.
I didn't realize that the city will assist with your lawn mowing, and tree cutting, if you're a senior. Apparently that's the case, because they mow her front & back yard! Very nice, and very useful! I like Calgary more & more all the time :-))
Susan
That's good Susan. I don't think they do that (help) in Ottawa. Very sensible to help people stay in their own homes as long as they can.
Yummy, that John Davis almost looks like a tea rose. Any fragrance?
Jo North
a little
Oops, I guess I should have said it looks like a "hybrid" tea rose. Heh heh.
Yeah...you better be careful 'cause the rose police will be after you
awwwwww My friend planted Hope For Humanity in memory of her father, Then Found Out that it's in honour of Canadian Blood Service, which he was a regular donor to. She's really pleased, you can bet!
Joanne - the Hunter is absolutely gorgeous!
