Ensata Light At Dawn Just Starting To Bloom

Beaver Falls, PA(Zone 6a)

I promised Mainer - Julianna - that I would post LAD when it began blooming. Last year I had two sets of blooms, and this year the plant is loaded. I will have flowers for quite some time. It's so pretty it looks like it's not real. Thanks Julianna! I'll dig you some this fall before the weather gets cold in your area.

Lovely! And look at all those buds. That's one happy iris!

Thanks Polly. I've had such sucess with this JI. It's in a mixed bed and gets pretty much the same treatment as the daylilies, siberian iris, and other perennials around it. The only specific treatment it got was the way it was planted. I remember being very careful about the depth of the hole and lining the bottom of the hole with mulch to keep the moisture in. Momogasumi and LAD are my only mature JI's right now. I received 4 new ones from a trader this spring. I think one is named and the other are her personal crosses. I can't wait to see the flowers in the years ahead. I love the look of the ensatas. They are so graceful.
