North East/Mid Atlantics, keep your eye out for Indian Pipe

Downingtown, PA(Zone 6b)

Monotropa uniflora

I've been seeing a decent amount of it on my recent heavy woods hikes this week. With all the rain and overcast we've had recently it is a good year for this crazy wildflower. I think it is one of the coolest plants in the woods.

Oh, I always loved finding those in the woods, when I was a kid in Michigan! I have not yet seen them here in the southern part of Illinois.

I've been seeing them in western NC lately and they are a really interesting plant. Thanks for the link, too. They had some great pictures and good information, even for those of us 50 yrs removed from elementary school.
