I own a wonderful 1910 Tudor-style rock house in San Antonio, Texas, which would look really wonderful with vines growing up the walls. Flowers woudl be great! My problem: the house is north-facing. South side gets extremely hot---100+---with intense sun in the summer. All other exposures get AM and PM sun briefly. North side gets day-long open shade. This is a 2 story building. Could look pretty dramatic, very Hollywood!
Any ideas, suggestions, warnings are most appreciated.

I am assumming you want self-clinging?
There is shizophragma:

and there is also a pink one:

They are self-clinging and would do very well on your east and north walls.
For your south and west walls, maybe some cable screw and wire network to attach climbing roses?

Or if you want solid green, creeping fig?

I've a clien that wants a pile of self adhearing ivy renoved from their 4 story home..where it runs over into her neighbors house.. If/when I get to it... I'd be happy to send it to you for postage....
Thanks for the help.
well...not hearing from you.. I didn't ..
afew weeks ago I ..with a devised tool.. .. which I concockted.. I removed it.. in 4 hours.. plus n hour tool making,, I used a 20' fiberglass extention pole.. with a screw end.. to which I attached a wood paint roller handle.. with the roller metal removed.. and a three tong weeding claw attached with.. sharpened tongs.. on the back sode of this.. I inset a 14" sawsall blade for cutting around the drainage pipes.. cable wires.. and an A/C line that complicated the removal.. I got three big garbage bags full of vines.. healthy and bug free..
without a word from you..I tossed them all.. sorry...
Warning: My advice to you would be to advoid any ivy that attaches itself to a wall. We bought a house once that had existing vines of ivy and when we removed it, it left all the tentacle like fibers on the brick and it couldn't be removed, scarring the wall. It had also managed to climb into the attic space. Some are very invasive and can cause damage so beware!
How very clever of you Gordon!
