Worried About Newly Planted Clem - Please Help

Nashville, TN(Zone 7a)

I have never grown clematis before. I just planted my first one yesterday afternoon. It had already been pruned back for shipping, and I planted it as stated in the instructions. When I saw it this afternoon - it had completely wilted and looks like it's not going to make it. Is it normal for it to wilt right after planting?

Thanks,

Natasha

knittynatty, it is not uncommon. was it super hot and did you plant in middle of day?
just water, maybe protect from hottest sun if it is in a full sun location? but water should bridge the gap on heat. keep it well watered, and you may need to nip off a little more stem and leaves, but wait a week or 10 days to let it settle in before you decide or do that.
