My three favorite perennials that do really well in shade but which I also grew in sun with added water are: Athyrium nipponicum 'Ursula's Red'. Heuchera sanguinea 'Firefly' - one of the few you can grow from seed. And it's tough and makes it through winter. Epimedium x versicolor 'Sulphureum' I loved the fact that I took all these plants from sun to shade.
