About six inches apart in rows that are 8 or ten inches apart. I'm trying not to be anxious over when I see sprouts of green. The ELephant cloves I gave more room. When I took the heads apart I realized it would have been smarter to buy more than one so I'd get more big cloves. Oh well. Then I did one from the store just labeled product of Mexico, just to compare. It had a much yellower inner skin than the 'china white' I bought and grew last year.
