I agree with LAURIEF that the Historic Preservation Iris society (HIPPS) is a good start. The problem is finding a lot of the iris cultivars from the distant past. HIPPS usually has a list of historic irises that are donated by members to be sold to others. The definition of a historic iris is opne that was introduced 30 years ago, I think. That means that the introductions from the seventies are becoming eligible to become historics.
