As I got close, the baby tried to fly away; but its foot was caught in the nest. It just didn't have the strength to fly with the weight of the nest on its foot.

I picked up the baby, brought it inside, and very carefully cut the nest off of its foot. At first the baby was scared; but then I think it realized I was just trying to help it. Afterwards, I put it back up on the porch ledge. It was still there when I went to bed last night; but by this morning it was gone. Sometimes the fledglings return to the nest for a day or two; so I'll be keeping a lookout for it.
