zacattack wrote: Hey everyone... I apologize for taking so long to get back to this thread. I appreciate each and every response. It's nice to know how others feel about your seedlings, especially when your growing space is very limited. I have always grown my seedlings in clumps (only been hybridizing for about 5 seasons) but have promised to make more space for the better seedlings this year, which means I must be willing to send more to the compost pile. irisMA... Thanks for your comments. Most folks have liked the bright orange beards surrounded by the yellow haft marks. (second photo in the thread) I'm devoting more space to this one. The flower from the blue bud is the last flower from my 11-14 posts.... I think I'll take a page from Margie and list all future seedling as simply 1,2, 3. That's so much easier for everyone to follow. None of my seedlings will be at the Austin Convention. Wish I had sent some. 03-3b is a very nice prospect. Color and form is nice, and it has super sturdy stalks and good branching. Anita... Thanks for your nice comments on 03-21b. It does have good substance and nice color saturation. I appreciate hearing that from a veteran hybridizer. I like the Batik Baby too... it just kind of grows on you. Unless it changes it growth habits, it will be a Border Bearded. I checked out your new thread about irises that didn't make the cut. I think I may have a few "dogs' to add to your new thread. Lisa... I'm glad you like 03-3b. Unfortunately it is has grown together with other rhizomes from the same cross, which I planted too close to save space. The others are not keepers, so I will be sure to lift this one after it blooms to be sure I don't loose it. I'll see how many rhizomes I come up with... get back with me in late April. Barry Blythe at Tempo Two has been blessed with a special touch for hybridizing. He has so many very striking iris. I would love to go in on an order with you, but my garden is full. This is going to be a major year of culling, and re-thinking my direction on my seedlings. Laura... Thank you for your very kind words. I'll be sure to keep you in mind if any of these become available. Here's a few more seedling photos. I'll start with another Border Bearded that I've had around since 2004. It will be #1 Anticipating Spring Bloom... Dan |
