Black-eyed peas are a Southern tradition. In my family, we had pork roast and sauerkraut on New Year's Day. One year I made pork roast, sauerkraut, and black-eyed peas on New Year's. Sixteen days later was the nasty Northridge Earthquake. I never made that combination again. I just have something pork on New Year's . We had Italian sausages today.
