The top comes off, but I'm going to need a side door because it's too deep for me to reach the bottom to clean it. Also, I'm afraid I'm going to knock a crysalis off when I remove the top to put in more food. Thanks to your great ideas for making containers for them, now I know where I can keep the guys when it comes time to add the changes to the main cage. Thanks to Katrina, I now have sun in my back yard and for the first time I can grow the plants and flowers to attract butterflies, and this summer I really went crazy with it. And I know it will just get better and better. Peggy
