One year I grew some pumpkin vines that had covered a 20'x20 area and then died over a single day. Squash vine borers had moved into the stems at the trunk and killed every vine. No more curcurbits for me. I surrender easily. and then i hadn't planned on eating the pumpkins, they were just for fun AND they took a LOT of water.
