The dwarf varieties seem to bloom earlier, but the blooms don't stay as long. This is Aquilegia canadensis. It has shorter spurs than A. formosa, but the color is much the same. It is the more common wild columbine of Canada and the northeastern US. I think there is even a form of canadensis in Texas. |
