Fortunately, I'm exclusively a flower and decorative plant gardener...no veggies. Too much work for me! It's antique roses, lavenders, bush daisies, bird of paradise, bouganvilla, plumeria etc. around here. Anything that doesn't require tons of water. You'd be amazed how well the antique roses do here in the blazing heat with little care. Here's a pic of one of the American Pillar roses that I inherited when I moved in here. It was just a stump that my landlord kept cutting to the ground, and it probably hadn't been watered for years. After I figured out what it was, I just let it go, all this growth was just THIS season! Nice thing is also they don't seem to have many pests, except for rust. But they are also kind of self-healing.
