I think your climate is milder in winter than here, by the look of it. Though I understand we do get very mild spells too. It's just that we get sharper frosts - much like in Kent, but possibly even more so...

Ah - just clicked - when you say others pinch the leaves you mean take rather than as in gardening term 'pinching the shoots'. So glad they end up with tummy ache lol. That's awful that you can't grow things because of other people's problems :(
