Beginner Gardening: Has anyone ever seen a kohlrabi regrow like this before?, 1 by robotmommy

Two of the chomped up plants - one with even less leaves left on it than this one - have started "resprouting" in an odd way. It's almost like the root system started sending up new plants - some where the original was, and some up to several inches away. I can't find anything about this through my internet searching - has anyone ever seen this before?
