'Indian Chief' Ayres, 1929
describes as; TB 35" EM , Maroon bitone. Translucent standards are wire-edged fall color. Falls are deep and velvety. Vigorous grower, will take quite a bit of shade and still bloom.

the standards of 'Indian Chief are translucent in almost any light, and from my experience it will bloom in shadier spots of the gardens where other Iris rarely bloom.

Here is a picture of my 'Indian Chief' ,taken in late afternoon sun, this spot receives very little full sun, it's shaded most of the day, if you look very closely you will see the 'wire of color' along the very edge of the standards.
