Here in the Southwest we enjoy the bright sun, long dry spells, mountains high and chilly, valleys wide and shimmering in heat, wide temperature swings and poor soil. These are just a few of the challenges commonly faced by Southwest gardeners. Although pleasant weather in some spots starts at about the same time of year that intolerable weather does in other parts, we jointly celebrate the generous warmth of the sun and the bounty that nature provides not only in plants, but in native animals and even, sometimes, in rocks and scenic sunsets.
