A nasty critter that has seriously impacted my tomato and pepper plants over the past several years. After trying all available non toxic treatment, I finally learned they could be controlled by a beneficial nematode, Steinernema kraussei, contained in a product called Nemesys L. It works only on the larva.
The larva, climbs up the tomato vine, enters at a leaf node, and tunnels inside the vine, eating as it goes. The plant goes into a wilt like decline, usually just before the tomatoes start to ripen. Small holes in the stalk of the plant are a telltale sign.
Follow Up. the nematodes were not very effective, and they were expensive. I have caved in and now use a systemic certified for fruit and vegetables.
