The Southern Skipperling is considered to be the smallest of all skippers. It is indeed tiny, with a wingspan of 1/2" to 3/4". I have photographed many of these and have yet to see one in the 3/4" range and do believe they can run smaller than 1/2". I find them often feeding in the same area and on the same flowers as small blues. A white line runs the length of the HW below and is literally diagnostic. National Audubon calls it a yellow streak, Butterflies through Binoculars calls it white. On all that I have seen, the streak is definitely white. They are weak fliers, therefore prone to hold for photo taking. Look in areas where grass has been mowed along side of taller grasses. Low growing, tiny flowers are their favorite.
